"Having my top horse get injured was never part of the plan, sending him away for such an important and meticulous rehab was something I had never even considered. When I visited Helios I was immediately blown away by the facilities, they have everything a top athlete needs to return to top competition form and beyond. The staff did a fantastic job at keeping me up to date daily on every detail of Quinns progress and day to day. Not only did his recovery progress exponentially while there, but I also believe that being in such a top facility with relaxed care was so good for his brain and body. He never got hot or antsy like most upper level event horses tend to on stall rest. I was so impressed with every aspect of his time at Helios and look forward to using their facilities as a permanent part of my horses program for rest, recovery, prevention and, when needed, rehab." - Missy Miller
"Tory is a Clydesdale Thoroughbred cross, and the mare for ten years has been a great First Flight Field Master’s horse for me. She was never lame – just an occasional abscess. Galloping up and down hills, crossing deep creeks, and jumping stout coops, leading First Flight at the Belle Meade Hunt is hard work. I was shocked and dismayed on January 3rd when, after an easy day of hunting (for Belle Meade, anyway) she came up the next day with a puffy right ankle. It turned out to be a low bowed tendon, caused by the very deep footing from the heavy rains we had this past Winter. The leg was cold hosed and wrapped by the barn staff, traditional treatment. Tory was a patient at Helios in February through mid-March 2021. During her stay, she had two 20 minute cold water spa treatments a day. She was hand walked twice daily and had a special paddock to graze. Then I took her back to Dr. Stinner for her checkup and wow, he was impressed. Dramatic results. “Couldn’t be better – very good”. And Dr. Stinner is usually a man of few words. Tory continues to progress and I am convinced that the stay at Helios made all the difference in her successfully recovery. I was very happy with the staff. I got pictures, texts and emails updating me frequently. I am so glad I entrusted this fine, valuable mare to their care." - Jean Derrick
"Our experience with Helios was beyond fabulous. Our 8 year old Holtsteiner mare (Hannah) required surgery to have a large sarcoid removed from her right groin area resulting in a 12 inch incision. Hannah’s surgery was performed at University of Georgia. Her rehabilitation plan required her to have at least a month of stall rest with daily wounds checks and wound cleaning. The Helios staff and their associated veterinarian Dr. Canup gave Hannah the best care possible. Immediately after our arrival, the Helios staff got Hannah settled into a spotless, large climate controlled stall with an attached private paddock. After a detailed intake exam, they secured her preferred grain and alfalfa hay in a timely manner saving us multiple trips to the feed store. Her supplements and Ulcergard were given without fail, contributing to her recovery. Hannah’s recovery took almost 2 months with the Helios staff and Dr. Canup with her every step of the way. As Hannah progressed, the Helios team took her on daily walks, continued to monitor, wash and treat her wound, contacted her farrier for shoeing and provided much stimulation and attention. Taking care of a “large and in charge” 1,300 lb. Holtsteiner mare with a large, painful incision is no small feat. I cannot thank the Helios staff enough for the impeccable care given to Hannah who is now jumping 3 feet coops in the foxhunting country of Belle Meade." - Clark & Kim Comeaux
All horses and horse owners deserve a respite especially those with special needs. We have Rosie; our 24yo special needs quarter horse who we love very much. Rosie survived EPM with severe after effects. Her gait and balance are off and she sometimes stumbles on her front feet. She also suffers from summer heaves which are controlled with nebulizer treatments in the morning and evening and Cushings for which she receives Prascend daily. When we go out of town for vacation or our daughter’s horse shows, Helios provides our respite. We are able to enjoy ourselves knowing that Rosie is well taken care of with an on call veterinarian to attend to any of her medical needs. The Helios staff is incredible. They provide her nebulizer treatments using the Flexineb in the morning and evening, stretching exercises and PEMF to combat her stiffness. They actually sent us a video of her cantering around the pasture which warmed our hearts. Her stall is prepared with special shavings and a big fan to keep her comfortable during the heat of day when she usually takes a “cutie nap”. Rosie gets much attention with grooming, physical therapy and walks. She is let out into their beautiful pastures with a few hand-picked horse friends several times per day which Rose really enjoys. When we pick up Rosie, she looks fantastic: well rested and groomed with her sweet personality. As her owners we are rejuvenated and happy to have a worry free vacation. Helios has provided this respite service for us for several years and we are so thankful. We could not ask for a better place to care for our special horse. Thank you Helios and your wonderful staff!!!!" - Clark & Kim Comeaux
"What started out as a few spa treatments for my lame mare turned into a month long stay at Helios. Liberty developed a serious eye infection that was treated and observed by the Helios staff multiple times daily. I never had to worry about the care she was receiving at this wonderful rehab facility. The Veterinarian and Staff at Helios provided regular blood work, administered ointments and medicine, put her on a feeding schedule and gave her so much love and affection while she was there. The Owner, Manager, and Staff at Helios all went above and beyond to make sure me and my horse were well taken care of. They kept me informed throughout the entire process, sending text and picture updates. I am thankful for Helios and would highly recommend them. When you take your horse to Helios, it may never want to come home. Everything was beyond all expectations." – Cathy Shelton
"Having a horse that has struggled in the past with being sound is something that sticks in a rider’s head, so when they take a single off step, we switch to panic mood. My horse had a fantastic double clear round in our training division, until we went through the flags. He was not lame per say, but he just was not right; I panicked as anyone would, I listened to the Helios pitch and figured I had nothing to lose, and it be perfect as a substitution icing. Fast forward to XC day I was warming him up casually trotting him around waiting for him to feel off so i could withdraw him, but it was quite the opposite, he felt amazing, forward, and willing to take anything insight. He stormed around the pine Top training like he had done it a million times; it was incredible. my horse had not felt that strong in a long time and the only thing I changed was the saltwater whirlpool. My horse loved his experience that I did it again after XC as an ice treatment! I wish we had one in MA. I would add this in a regular routine if I had the option, and I am looking forward to signing my horse up for a couple overnight stays when we return to Aiken." - Marissa Cennami
